2020-2021 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards
Nominees, JAZZ composition (youth Division)
Will Everitt, London, United Kingdom
I am a 16 year old composer and multi-instrumentalist living in London, playing trumpet, flugelhorn and piano. I write and perform in both jazz and classical genres, feeling equally comfortable in an orchestral setting as in a big band, or improvising in a jazz quartet. I’m particularly interested in composing in the spaces in between genres and mediums. I study composition and trumpet at the Junior Guildhall School of Music with Jeffery Wilson, and am a music scholar at Reed’s School in Surrey. I was the recipient of a Highly Commended award in BBC Young Composer 2019, was selected for the Britten Sinfonia Young Composer Academy 2019-2020, and was also selected for the Sound and Music Jazz Summer course 2020.As well as performing with the National Children’s Orchestra (NCO) and the National Youth Brass Band (NYBBGB), I have performed at London venues such as Cadogan Hall, Barbican Centre, St John Smith Square, Ronnie Scott’s and recorded at Metropolis Studios. I have won numerous awards for trumpet within the UK.
Over the past year I have released 3 singles and 1 EP on Spotify and iTunes, fitting broadly into a jazz/pop genre, and continue to work on new releases alongside my other musical explorations. I am currently trying to select a conservatoire or university to study composition and performance, either in the UK or USA.
